In-charge of Maheshganj police station in Pratapgarh along with a constable were suspended after an illegal liquor factory was found running under thgeir patronage. Ironically, after teh administration sealed the unit, the colluding cops even instigated criminals to burn it down to destroy evidence. A case has been registered in this regard and Additional SP (West) has been asked to probe the matter threadbare.
Interestingly, the district administration has so far preferred not to act against the erring Excise officials, who too failed to discharge their duties in restricting the criminals to run the illegal distillery right under their nose.
As per reports, Surveillance Cell in-charge of Allahabad Police along with top officials of Allahabad and Pratapgarh conducted a joint raid at a Rice Mill at Rumatipur Rauaskarpur area in Pratapgarh on Monday night. The team was tiopped off that an illegal distillery was being run from the rice mill premises. The input was found to be true during the raid with both foreign and country liquor being ditilled at the unit.
The raiding team detained 15 accused from the spot and recovered 2300 boxes of country and foreign liquor bottles. They also seized equipment used to manufacture and pack the liquor bottles. later, the team sealed the factory. After the raiding team left, some members of the gang set the sealed rice mill afire around 2 am on Tuesday. later the DM, SP and other top officers along with three fire tenders reached the spot and somehow doused the fire. But by then almost all the equipment and gadgets sealed by the officials were gutted. Taking congnizance of the willful laxity on part of t he local police, Station Officer, Nishi Kant Rai along with beat constable Shiv Mani Tewari were suspended.
