Within 48 hours of attack on cops in Kasganj, which claimed the life of a constable besides leaving a sub-inspector critically injured, two more incidents of assault on men in uniform were reported from Mainpuri and Shahjahanpur.
According to reports from Mainpuri, the cops went to the spot at Jarauli village when the miscreants threw stones on them on Wednesday night. The police team later summoned additional force and took four of the accused into custody. They later lodged a case against five named persons besides a dozen other unidentified miscreants. The police teams also conducted raids to arrest the remaining accused.
Reports said that Balram and Ravindra, both hailing from Jarauli in Bichwa locality of Mainpuri, had a heated argument over throwing household garbage in front of their houses. The issue was resolved by locals but the two parties again clashed on Wednesday night.
The locals informed police following which sub-inspector Atweer Singh, along with two other cops, reached the spot and saw people clashing with each other. As the cops tried to resolve the issue, Ravindra Singh and Neha from one group and Balram Singh, Govind aka Golu, Babli and over half-a-dozen other residents first hurled abuses on the police team and later started pelting them with stones.
The police team immediately asked for additional force. Later, they arrested the above-named accused. Circle officer Amar Bahadur, who led the police team, claimed that no one involved in violence would be spared, and stern action would be taken against the miscreants.
In another incident in Shahjahanpur, the cops rushed to a ‘Devi Jagran’ programme after getting information that some female devotees were teased by goons late Wednesday night. The incident took place in Kashmir Ki Pipeline in Kalan locality where a local resident, Ram Kumar Gupta, had organised ‘Devi Jagran’ on Wednesday night.
Reports said that some goons started harassing female devotees, and the organisers called the police. As the cops tried to arrest the miscreants, they caught hold of the policemen, held them captive and also attacked them.
When the senior officers learnt of the attack, they rushed to the rescue of their colleagues and shifted them to a hospital. They also conducted raids and arrested five of the troublemakers. The cops later registered a case of attack on the police party and on the complaint of organisers, a separate case of eve-teasing and molestation was registered against the accused.
SP (Rural) Sanjeev Bajpai, who also rushed to the spot to take stock of the operations, denied that cops were held captive, but said that the police team was attacked, and thus they were taking stern action against all those involved in the violence.
