The proposed community namaz and reciting of quran on the banks of Saryu river in Faizabad on Thursday in support of the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya, was cancelled at the last minute after the RSS disowned the function after which the district administration too denied permission to organize it.

Sources said that local saints of Ayodhya-Faizabad also opposed the holding of namz on Saryu banks saying that it was not required.

It was earlier planned that around 1000 Muslims would offer namaz and recite Quran for early construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya. Minority Affairs minister Chaudhary laxmi Narain was to attend the function.

On Thursday morning, preparations were underway for the programme and TV channels were putting up their cameras for live coverage when suddenly a tweet by RSS led the district authorities to ban the programme.

Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh of RSS, Arun Kumar in his tweet said that the RSS was not holding any namaz programme in Ayodhya.

After this, the district administration swung into action and asked people not to assemble at the ghat for namaz. local officials said that no permission was given in this regard.

Earlier, it was believed that the function had the approval of the RSS.

Suddenly some saints also issued statements and opposed the offering of community namaz and recital of Quran on Saryu banks saying that namaz was not required for construction of Ram temple.
