Former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said that a conspiracy was being hatched by the Bharatiya Janata Party government to oust the Other Backward Classes community from power by ending reservations.
“The behaviour of the BJP towards the backwards has been step-motherly. Today the reservation of Backward Classes has been taken away; tomorrow the BJP government will deprive the Scheduled Castes of this facility. The right given by Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar is being snatched away," Yadav said during a press conference here on Thursday.
The SP president said that the governments in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi were formed with the votes of Backward Classes but there was no place for them in society.
Attacking the Yogi Adityanath government, Akhilesh Yadav said a conspiracy was being hatched to oust the OBC community from power by ending the reservations. “There is a conspiracy to hold back the generations to come. The BJP wants the votes of the backwards but does not want to give them a share in power," he said and added that reservation system was changed during the results of the Police Recruitment Board following which 1,700 Dalits and Backwards were denied jobs and the same thing happened in the recruitment of 69,000 teachers in the state.
“If the government's conscience is clear, it should convene a special session of assembly so that they can put forth their point and give us a chance to put our view on OBC reservation in urban local bodies’ polls," he said.
Yadav said, if needed, the party's OBC wing would approach the Supreme Court to protect the interests of the Other Backward Classes.
"The SP will now oppose every conspiracy of the BJP. Right now the rights of backward people have been snatched away, in the future the rights of Dalits will be snatched away too," he said, adding that earlier, the same thing was done in the results of the Police Recruitment Board by bringing a change in the reservation system.
Yadav said that the SP does not trust the government and its policies and his party would approach the Supreme Court on OBC reservations.
"The BJP does not want to hold the urban local bodies’ polls and wants to complicate the issue," he said.
Akhilesh Yadav also alleged that the Congress and the BJP had the same agenda as there was not much difference between both the parties as they were two sides of the same coin.
The SP chief said he had not received any invitation for Bharat Jodo Yatra from the Congress. “We have not received any invitation (for Bharat Jodo Yatra). The ideology of our party is different. The BJP and Congress are the same," he said.
Akhilesh Yadav announced that he would go to Ayodhya on January 27 to evaluate the loss suffered by traders whose shops were demolished in the name of beautification.
