After making a frontal attack on prime minister’s Narendra Modi for playing drums in Japan when people are facing hosts of problems here in India,  Congress vice-president on Friday diverted his attack on local Samajwadi Party government. He claimed that the standard of primary education in the state is “very weak”.

“There is a need for qualitative improvement in the standard of education for which everyone will have to work together,” the Congress Vice President was quoted as saying at a function at A H Inter College in Musafirkhana on occasion of Teachers Day on Friday.  Some of the teachers who attended the function said Rahul noted that he has found the standard of primary education in Uttar Pradesh to be very weak during his tours of the state.

“The foundation (primary education) is very weak and the progress that ought to have taken place in the field of education has not been achieved,” he was quoted as saying. “Children are the future of society and the progress and future of society and country depend on them,” he said on the second and last day of his two-day visit to his constituency on Friday.

“Good teachers do not create doctors or engineers, but good human beings,” he said, lauding the ‘guru-shishya parampara’ (teacher-student tradition). Teachers are the torch bearer of the society and they never retire, but render their services throughout their lives, he said. Rahul felicitated 34 teachers of his constituency and presented them with shawls and mementos.

Meanwhile Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also witnessed protest outside the Munshiganj guest house by some woman activists raising slogans against the Congress. The protest was led by one Rita Singh, who is a known opponent of the Congress and particularly Rahul Gandhi.  She had also led such protest during the lok Sabha  elections.  During the protest, the women activists who were said to be belonging to Bharatiya Kisan Union, raised problems of water, power and bad roads and blamed Gandhi for the  same.  During Gandhi’s visit at time of elections also Rita Singh had tried to show black flags and protested against him. Rahul, who was on a two day visit to his Parliament constituency later left for New Delhi from Amausi Airport here on Friday evening.
