In an attempt to expand its base in Uttar Pradesh the Congress has decided to launch its campaign to connect with people by holding meetings, seminar and honouring the ground level party workers.
“It is wrong to say that people have not left us. But the truth is we had forgotten them during our regime which led to our defeats in last
few elections,” AICC general Secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Madhusudan Mistri said while addressing a function of party’s
foundation day held here on Sunday.
He asked the party leaders and workers to meet the people regularly and solve their problems. “‘Get associated with the people. Try to understand their needs and convey the same to the high command. Until we understand them they will not connect with Congress,” Mistry said.
He also announced that very soon party will organise a workers training camp at Varanasi where talking points will be given to them. Mistri said it is the duty of the party to honour the dedicated party workers and leaders so that they continue their effort. “This has happened many a times when we ignored party workers. This was wrong. We will rectify our mistake and see to it that workers get their reward,” he said.
later Mistri and other senior leaders unveiled the 7 feet tall hand painted portrait of Jawahar lal Nehru at the state party office and inaugurated a library. UP Congress also honoured around 300 vetran Congressmen on the occassion by giving them a citation. Other senior leaders also recounted the golden era of Congress and how the caste and communal politics have vitiated the peaceful atmosphere of the state. They said party’s contribution in building this nation cannot be ignored.
Prominent among those who were present in the function include former union Ministers Beni Prasad Verma and Sriprakash Jaiswal, Rajya Sabha members Sanjay Singh, P l Punia, Pramod Tiwari and Congress legislature party leader Peadeep Mathur.
Earlier in the morning, the in-charge of the Congress Sewa Dal, Prahlad Dwivedi, and other volunteers took out a march from UPCC office to GPO and garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
