The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) has chalked out a comprehensive strategy for the upcoming local bodies elections in Uttar Pradesh.
The Congress will field winnable and strong candidates in all the wards of 17 municipal corporations, 199 municipal councils and 544 nagar panchayats of the state.
The party is holding meetings at the UPCC headquarters here, and claimed to be busy making appointments of in-charges besides processing the names of aspirants for final selection of the candidates at the earliest.
UP Congress president and former MP Brijlal Khabri said here on Monday that the party would fight the local bodies elections with full force and he was confident that they would get unprecedented success in the state.
Khabri said that senior and experienced Congressmen and youth brigade were already busy in fields to make people aware of the achievements of the party and to convince that Congress would make a visible change in the civic and other conditions of the cities if the people voted the party to power.
He said that the party always fought for the welfare of the public so he was sure to get full public support to win maximum seats.
Khabri said that whether it was the novel coronavirus disaster, or the problems of the farmers, traders, youth, women, unemployed, rigging in recruitments, or oppression of all sections, including Dalits, backward and minorities, only the Congress party had taken action to expose the failures of the government.
The UP Congress president said that the government had done gross irregularities in the reservation for Dalits and Backwards in municipal bodies. He said in the entire state, only two seats had been reserved for Scheduled Castes and only four seats for backward classes in 17 municipal corporations, which was much less than the reservation available.
Similarly, he said, the Scheduled Castes got only 24 seats in municipal councils, which was about 12 per cent; and Other Backward Classes got 51 seats, which was about 24 per cent.
Similarly, he said, in nagar panchayats, only 86 seats were reserved for Scheduled Castes, which was about 15 per cent, while only 145 seats were reserved for Backward Classes, which was unfair to them and tribes.
The UPCC chief said the Congress would take this issue to the public and expose the gross irregularities done by the BJP government in the reservation for Scheduled Castes and OBCs and tell the people why the Bharatiya Janata Party was anti-Dalit, anti-OBC.
