The Congress staged a noisy walkout from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly after state labour minister Swami Prasad Maurya disclosed that 54,190 people were given jobs in the private sector in the state in the present BJP’s regime of eleven months.

The Congress members were on the toes over the issue during the question hour when the minister said that in the employment portal of the government till date 20,28,189 youths have registered as unemployed in the state.

Congress leader Ajay Kumar lallu said that BJP had promised to provide 70 lakh jobs in five years in the state but they have failed in the first year.

The minister assured that government was committed to provide jobs to the youths and efforts were underway.  “Over 54,190 jobs were generated through 561 Rojgar melas (Job fairs) held in the state and we have not counted the government jobs so far,” he said on Friday.

He also said that the government had organised 2048 career counselling camps in the state in which 2,47,042 youths took part.

The government also announced that there is no plan to re-introduce unemployment allowances as Samajwadi Party members created a ruckus demanding a special package for unemployed youth..

Maurya said why Yogi Government will start this project when previous Akhilesh Yadav government himself had stopped the scheme in the second year of its regime.

In another question of Aradhana Mishra (Congress) over the growth rate of the state the minister said that the state’s growth rate is higher than the country’s.

In 2016-17, when the state’s growth rate was 7.2 per cent, the country’s growth rate was 7.1 per cent. He said UP’s growth rate in 2011-12 was 4.7 per cent, in 2012-13 it was 5.8 per cent in 2013-14 it was 4 per cent and in 2015-16 it was 8.3 per cent.
