Congress questions posting of acting DGP, extension to CS

The Congress, on Wednesday, attacked the Uttar Pradesh government, claiming that the seriousness of the state government on law and order or on administrative front could be gauged from the fact that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had failed to find a permanent director general of police for the last over one year.

The Congress also said the post of chief secretary was also held by a retired officer after giving him extension.

“The seriousness of the Bharatiya Janata Party government and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who makes tall claims on law and order and checking crime, can be gauged from the fact that even after more than a year since the unceremonious removal of Mukul Goel, they could not provide a permanent DGP to Uttar Pradesh,” said UP Congress spokesman Anshu Awasthi.

Attacking the government on Wednesday, Awasthi said that after Goel, the chief minister handed over the additional charge of DGP to DS Chauhan and later to RK Vishwakarma and now to Vijay Kumar.

Awasthi claimed that in such a situation, there was confusion and ambiguity in the work of the police force while the government continued to act on certain individuals on the basis of religion, and on the other hand, crimes were increasing day by day.

He said that in the absence of a permanent DGP, the state was witnessing a spurt in crime but as part of ‘propaganda’, UP police were killing criminals in fake encounters or using bulldozers to demolish property owned by criminals of a particular community.

Awasthi further claimed that not only DGP, Home department was being headed by a principal secretary rank officer instead of additional chief secretary rank officer. He said on the post of chief secretary also, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had failed to find a competent officer as replacement and went on giving extension to DS Mishra.

It may be mentioned here that Mishra has got extensions two times of one year each and his extension period would end in December this year.
