congress leaders against Dr Sanjay Singh and wife Amita

Not all is well with the Congress leaders in Rahul Gandhi’s Parliamentary constituency - Amethi. local Congress leaders have raised the banner of revolt against Rajya Sabha MP, Dr Sanjay Singh and his wife Amita charging the couple of acting against the party for long.

The leaders are further irked as they feel that the Congress brass has been looking the other way despite knowing the uneasy facts and also facilitated a back door entry for Dr Singh to the Rajya Sabha from Assam.

The Congress leaders in unison have now written to party chief Sonia Gandhi and apprised Rahul Gandhi about their discomfiture to work in Sultanpur and Amethi under Dr Singh’s close aides who have virtually hijacked the local leadership. Resigning from the District unit posts, they have urged Sonia Gandhi to let them be simple members as it had become untenable for them to work under Dr Singh’s henchmen.

Sources in the Congress confirmed that some leaders including a contestant of the last Assembly polls, had written to Sonia Gandhi against Dr Singh and Amita Singh.

Sources revealed that the peeved leaders claimed that both Dr Singh and his spouse went out of their way to ensure defeat of the Congress candidates in the last Assembly polls. They also charged the high-profile couple were harassing party loyalists to weaken the Congress in it’s traditional pocket burrough.

They further alleged that Dr Singh was running a parallel party aiming to ensure that no Congressmen won from the area in future. They pointed out that in 2004 lok Sabha polls, the people voted against Congress candidate Satish Sharma in Sultanpur but on realising their mistake they ensured the win of Congress candidate Dr Sanjay Singh in 2009 despite not liking him.

But instead of working for the welfare of public, Dr Singh enjoying foreign trips with Amita Singh which hit the party’s prospects in Sultanpur.

Besides, the leader pointed out that Dr Singh also misguided senior leaders into appointing his trusted aide Krishna Kumar Mishra aka Munnu as district Congress chief even when Munnu was earlier expelled for six years for anti-party activities, an order which has yet not been revoked.
