After getting a taste of electoral success in rural Gujarat recently, the Congress is set to corner the rling BJP in villages situated in lucknow by exposing how the Centre and the state governments have failed to address locals problems of farmers, youths and other sections.
Congress workers would hold chaupal in 200 villages of the state capital along with four grand Rs panchayat’ to be attended by state Congress chief Raj Babbar.
“We will start a 13-day Mahatam Gandhi Kisan Yatra to mark death anniversary of Bapu falling on Tuesday,” confirmed lucknow district Congress chief Gaurav Chaudhary.
Speaking to media persons in lucknow on Monday, Chaudhary said that the Yatra would start from GPO after paying tributes the Mahatma on Tuesday noon and iot would cover 200 villages of lucknow from Sarojninagar, Kakori, Mahilhabad, Mall, Mohanlalganj, Gosainganj, Bakshi Ka Talab etc.
The Congress leader said that during their Yatras, chaupals engaging farmers, youths, women and other sections of the society would be held to take their feedback about the problems faced due to unpopular policies of the Union and state governments.
Chaudhary said that the farmers were feeling cheated by the government after the Yogi government had waived off the loans of less then Rs 100 leaving the rest to either commit suicide or bear the burnt. Similarly, youths feel cheated after the Centre and state governments failed to give them employment.
Vinod Mishra, who is in-charge of Congress in lucknow, claimed that besides chaupal, Raj Babbar would hold panchayats in Sarojanianagar, Malihabad, Bakshi Ka Talab, and Mohanlalganj also.
He claimed that the party had earlier taken up issues related to farmers during the last Assembly elections but now when the government has still not waived off loans, has not checked prices of seeds, fertlisers and even power charges, they would prepare a chargesheet after discussing various issues with the farmers.
Mishra said that to get these problems solved, Congress leaders and workers would later take to the street and ghearo the government to force them to at least provide cheap power, seeds and better Minimum Support Price for crops to farmers. The Yatra will end in Mohanlalganj on February 11.
