Congress continues fight  against new farm laws

Mounting a fresh attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government, Uttar Pradesh  Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu on Tuesday said that three laws recently passed by Parliament had been imposed on the country’s farmers to hand over the agriculture sector to capitalists but his party would not let it happen under any circumstances.

The Congress had launched a nation-wide movement against the farm laws under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Lallu said in on Tuesday, adding that there was a massive response to the Kisan Nyay Yatra in Uttar Pradesh and in other parts of the country.

The UPCC chief said the party organised a tractor rally from Budhana Mor in Muzaffarnagar to expose the three “black” farm laws of the Central government on Tuesday morning.

He said that these legislations aimed at promoting corporate farming and benefiting capitalists.

The UPCC chief said the exclusion of pulses, edible oil, potato and onion from the Essential Commodities Act would promote black-marketing. He claimed that no mention of MSP in the new laws was the biggest ever act of betrayal against farmers, who had now been left at the mercy of market and capitalist forces.

Lallu said that by destroying the existing system of grain, vegetable and fruits market, the government was hell bent upon crippling the farm ecosystem to benefit capitalists.
