Congress, BJP misleading riot victims: Mulayam

Reiterating his commitment to fight the communal forces Samajwadi party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav said here on Friday that Congress and BJP leaders were misleading riot victims against state government who have taken shelter in relief camps after Muzaffarnagar riots.

"Whether Samajwadi Party wins or loses next lok Sabha election I would not hesitate to say that Congress and BJP leaders have started a whisper campaign against Akhilesh Government. They have prevented riot victims from returning to their homes for their political gains," Yadav Sr. said while inaugurating the 16th Ranvir Singh Memorial Saifai festival on Friday. "Everyone knows my secular credential and therefore barring left all the parties have started criticising Samajwadi Party. This also shows that we are moving on the right direction," he said.

This much needed clarification was awaited as earlier it was reported that Mulayam had claimed BJP and Congress agents were living in relief camps in the garb of  riot victims. "My statement was projected in a different manner. Everyone knows that BJP and Congress leaders were instrumental in spreading canard against us," he said. Hitting out at Congress he said that the UPA government was working on the direction of capitalists and this has led to increase in prices of essential commodities. "If Samajwadi Party comes to power it will bring down prices and work for the uplift of the poor and the downtrodden," he said.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that though his Government was doing exceptional work the party workers were not able to spread the message. "This is probably because the workers are not in touch with masses. I have got reports that leaders’ behavior with people is not proper. We should not forget that people have voted us to power with hope and if we fail them they (people) will not spare them in next election," he said.

Though CM’s appeal was polite but the directive from party’s national general secretary Prof Ram Gopal Yadav was more blunt and direct. "Some of the ministers and senior leaders are acting like `goondas’ and their behaviour is giving a bad name to the Akhilesh Government," he said while addressing the audience. "The law and order situation should improve. The ministers should also improve their conduct with people. If we fail to do so party will have to suffer I the next lok Sabha election," Prof Yadav said.

Another senior party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav however suggested the solution to fight this ill. "There are some outsiders who have joined SP recently. Throw them out immediately. The party needs a thorough cleaning because these are the people who are doing all illegal work in the government," he said. The Saifai Mahotsava got off to a colourful start with Ek Sur Ek Tal programme. The Samajwadi party Government also honoured the medal winners of 2012 london Olympics including Gagan Narang, Vijay Kumar, Saina Nehwal, Mery Com, Sushil Kumar and Yegeshwar Dutt.
