Congress announced Akhilesh Yadav as one of its star campaigner

Samajwadi Party’s Maharashtra chief Abu Asim Azmi opposed the move of party president Akhilesh Yadav to campaign for the Congress in Karnataka Assembly elections. The Congress has already announced Akhilesh Yadav as one of its star campaigner for the Karnataka Assembly poll.

The SP leader from Maharashtra, a native of Azamgarh, wrote to the SP chief asking him to refrain from campaigning for Congress candidates in Karnataka. In his two-page letter, Azmi termed Congress as ‘opportunistic, non-reliable and soft-Hindutva party’. He charged the Congress of ditching the SP in the last elections.

“If the party still decides to get into any kind of alliance with Congress in Maharashtra for the upcoming Assembly and lok Sabha polls, then I will be left with no option but to revolt against the party,” said Azmi.

SP spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said, “At the moment, party president Akhilesh yadav will be campaigning for SP candidates in Karnataka. The decision to campaign for Congress candidates has not yet been taken.”

A day before Azmi shot off his letter to Akhilesh Yadav, SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav expressed concerns over the standing of Congress party in 2019 elections.

On Thursday, Mulayam Singh said that the Congress would hardly win two seats and it should not be included in the SP-BSP coalition for lok Sabha elections.

Senior Yadav also said that if both SP-BSP could formalize the alliance to grass root level in UP, then it could produce spectacular results in 2019 lok Sabha elections.
