The Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party attacked the Yogi Adityanath Government for betraying farmers by giving them miniscule relief after promising waiver off entire loans and ensuring 50 percent profit by raising Minimum Support Price (MSP) of agri-produce.
“The farming community has been badly hit with various calamites and now their problems have been accentuated due to unpopular and anti-farmer decision of the BJP governments, at the Centre and the state,” asserted Congress spokesman Amarnath Agarwal on Thursday.
Agarwal was reacting to Yogi’s handing over cheques to farmers waiving off agri-loans in lucknow on Thursday. He claimed that while farmers were not provided MSP as assured by Modi during poll rallies, their loans have also not been fully waived off as assured.
“Farmers have been hit hard due to non-raising of MSP and waiving of farm loan. The recent increase in prices of urea, pesticides after the imposition of Goods and Services Tax (GST) would only aggravate problems of the farmers,” Agarwal claimed.
“It is a matter of grave concern that the BJP regimes at Centre and UP have adopted anti-farmers policy to appease a few industrialists friends. Farmers are left with no option but to end their lives due to rising debt,” said the Congress sopkesman. “Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, have ignored issues related to the farmers,” he charged.
Meanwhile, reacting to the farm loan waiver by Yogi Government, BSP chief Mayawati said that it was a breach of trust with the farmers that the BJP was not completely waiving off farm loans.
“loan waiver up to merely Rs 1 lakh, that too four months afterthe formation of government in UP, proves that the BJP’s policy about farmers was full of treachery,” alleged the BSP supremo.
Mayawati said that the BJP government has failed to deliver on law and order, crime control, health etc as promised during the release of Rs lok Kalyan Sankalp’ manifesto in the run up to the last Assembly elections.
