Congmen to pledge for following footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi

What could be called as `political patriotism’ with an eye on vote bank, Congressmen now following the foot steps of Bharatiya Janta Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, would pledge to follow the foot-steps of Mahatma Gandhi on occasion of death anniversary of the Father of Nation which has been observed as `Saheed Diwas" (Martyrs Day), on Thursday.

`We all along with crores of Indians will pledge to follow the footsteps of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary throughout the country", revealed spokesman of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC), Maroof Khan here on Wednesday evening. He said that vice-president of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Rahul Gandhi will give them the above oath. He said that the main ceremony will be held at India Gate in New Delhi and will be broadcasted live throughout on doordarhsan and news channels.

Maroof claimed that in lucknow, they Congressman and all nation loving people would gather at GPO park under the Mahatama Gandhi statue where a big screen has been put to directly see the function at India Gate and later take oath from Rahul Gandhi.

He said that similar arrangements has been also made in all the districts of UP as well as through-out the country so that everyone could take oath together to follow the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi. He said that all religion prayers will be also organised at Party head-quarter besides giving floral tribute to Gandhiji.

It be mentioned that earlier BJP PM’s candidate Narendra Modi made efforts to accelerate his run for Delhi’s throne,  when he went for so-called `political patriotism’.On the death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the country's Iron man, in December 15 last, Modi managed to convert a marathon run into a major mobilisation event for the BJP.  The 'Run for Unity' marathon, held at over 1100 locations, saw the party's top brass fan out in different parts of the country. Continuing to usurp Sardar Patel's legacy, Modi declared that the event was a small step for his big dream of constructing the world's tallest statue - the Statue of Unity.

Similarly to show his strength once again, NaMO  organises a function and celebrated the 51st anniversary of melody queen lata Mangeshkar’s memorable song ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke logon’, which had moved Jawaharlal

Nehru to tears. In a politically loaded speech playing to patriotic sentiments, Modi demanded an able leadership that could live up to expectations of the Indian soldiers and people. "We respond to a smaller country [read Pakistan] with folded hands when the enemy behead our men. What a widow of our beheaded soldier wanted was her husband’s head, not bringing him back to life," said Modi, recalling a cross-border incident that had strained the Indo-Pak relations and evoked nation-wide criticism of the UPA government. In full view of decorated war heroes and families of martyrs, including of the 1962 Indo-China war after which Mangeshkar’s song eulogising the Indian solider became an all-time inspiration, Modi demanded a war memorial. Now after NaMo,  Congress `Yuvraj’ is trying to use the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi reportedly to mobilize Party’s campaign for coming elections by organising oath taking ceremony.
