Congress accused prime minister Narendra Modi and his government for saffronisation of the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan by making out of way appointment of Rastriya Swayam Sewak (RSS) Sangh or Bharatiya Janta’s cadre in the district level committees to select NYC volunteers in the State.
The Party leaders threatened that they will not sit quietly if such out of way appointments have been made in the NYC and they would come on road to protest it. The Party said that they would also seek the help of the court if Centre would not withdraw their decision. The authorities of the Nehru Yuva kendra had earlier rejected the list of the members given by the state government which mostly includes the names of senior government teachers and officials.
“The act of the Central Government is similar to that of Vyapam scam of Madhya Pradesh as the BJP leaders openly flouted the norms to saffronise the entire system of Nehru Yuva Kendra,” alleged UP Congress general secretary Deepak Singh adding that never in the past, a political Party activists were appointed any government department posts.
Addressing the media persons here on Monday evening, Singh alleged that UP government had sent the list of the district selection committee members but on July 17 last, the Nehru Yuva Kendra authorities on direction of the Central Government had rejected it and sent it back to the State. He said that what is more surprising is that the proposal have been made as per laid norms after giving an advertisement and by a proper committee headed by district magistrates approving it but still the Narendra Modi’s government got it cancelled.
Deepak Singh further charged that later without following any norms and regulations, the appointments of mostly the RSS, BJP or Vidhyarthi Parishad members have been made by the Central government on recommendations of local BJP leaders. He claimed that the selection committee members are the part of the three members committee headed by the district magistrates to appoint 3 to 4 NYC volunteers in each block to propagate the central schemes. These volunteers are appointed for a period of 2 years and they are paid Rs 2500 per month as honorarium.
According to Deepak Singh, now with the above move, BJP would get their Party’s active 3 to 4 volunteers selected by NYC at every block level. He also accused that not only this, when the NYC were supposed to popularise games, quiz, plays etc to high-light the government policies taken up for welfare of youths, but now the same would ensure propaganda on the Party line of the BJP. He alleged that BJP would use their volunteers to spread the saffron wing at every blocks of the state hence they put all the norms aside and went ahead with making illegal appointments.
Demanding immediate cancellation of the list of the RSS and BJP leaders in the selection committee, Deepak threatened that the Congress will launch a agitation in this regard and if the Central government would be still adamant to go ahead with selection of Saffron brigade members than they will also go to the court to get the entire exercise cancelled.
