Congress president threatened to launch a state-wide agitation if the problems of the cane growers will not be solved by December 7 and all the sugar-mills will also start operation.
We will be forced to come of streets in support of cane growers if state government failed to solve their problems by December 7", threatened president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) Nirmal Khatri. He alleged that the Akhilesh Yadav had connived with the sugar mills and is playing politics over cane price which would ultimately harm the interest of farmers.
Congress could not tolerate exploitations of farmer’s right", Khatri said on Friday while alleging that Government had lost all it’s credit otherwise the Mill owners could not dare to refuse to obey the chief minister’s order for immediately starting their mills or be ready to face the action. Khatri also condemned state government approach to deal with the situation in lakhimpur Kheri where one farmer had to commit suicide just as he failed to pay his debt and his crop has been also lying unsold. Congress president also criticized firing on farmers who were protesting the death of their colleague in Kheri on Friday. Khatri demanded a probe and compensation for the family members of the farmer as well as monetary help for all those who were injured in firing.
Meanwhile spokesman of the UPCC, Virendra Madan claimed that the farmers are not just suffering due to above delay in action by the State government but they would also face huge loss as they could not take up any further crop as their fields are already occupies by cane crop. He also alleged that not just that, slow action by Akhilesh Yadav in dealing with the situation also facilitated many mills owners to buy cane crop at throw away prices as poor farmers who were forced to burn their product preferred to get some money so that they could pay their debts besides to make preparation for next wheat crop which too has been now delayed.
