Senior Congress leader from Gujarat and chairman of the AICC minority department Khurshid Ahmed Syed condemned Narendra Modi’s much publiciced Gujrat Model of development and alleged that BJP’s prime ministerial candidate is the biggest liar of the country and is engaged in large scale corruption.
''The development in Gujarat has come to a standstill and just the private companies are making some. The power situation is also very bad as only 30 per cent of the installed capacity of power is being generated there,''he said adding that Modi’s government is involved in corruption of more than 1000 crore of rupees just in the power sector. He claimed that the power scenario can be gauged by the fact that more than 5.64 lakh applications of farmers for power connection are gathering dust in the files at Gujrat.
Talking to media persons here on Monday afternoon, Syed, who has been appointed three months back as chairman of the AICC minority Department and this was his first visit to UP, said that the situation in Gujarat is very bad.'' When a CM, who aspires to become a Prime Minister has spent Rs 40 crores in the judiciary just to stop the formation of lokayukta, proves the intention of the BJP and how much they care for transparency,''he said.
He said that the situation of education and power has deteriorated in Gujarat while atrocities against the tribal were going unheard. ''Ahmedabad Metro has been publicised just on the posters and papers and there is nothing concrete on the ground,''he added. Congress leader claimed that during Sadhbhawana rallies, Modi announced development packages of thousand and thousands crores of rupees but so far not a single project started which pointed that how Modi lied to the public to gather cheap popularity.
He questioned, when a leader cannot serve a small population of Gujarat then how can he promise to give a good governance in the country. Congress’s minority chairman even presented statistics of the poll results to prove that Modi is even worst chief minister than former BJP chief minister Keshubhai Patel.
In 1998 when Keshubhai was chief minister, BJP got 19 of the total 26 Parliament seats, and again in 1999,the figure remains 20 seats for BJP under Keshubhai", he pointed saying that in 2004, the seats reduced to 15 under Modi and again in 2009 it was confined to 15 seats. Similarly he said that under Modi in Assembly elections in 2002, BJP got 127 seats which reduced to 117 in 2007 polls and further reached to 2015 in last Assembly elections which also showed the popularity of Modi in decreasing by every passing day. However, the Minority Department chairman confessed that due to some problem within the Party they could not capitalise on it. On the issue of Congress state minority cell lying defunct in UP, Syed said that it will be soon reinstated but added that former chairman, Maroof Khan is looking the minority affairs till the Cell will be re-constituted in UP.
