With over a hundred days since the Uttar Pradesh Congress is running without any president following the removal of Ajay Kumar ‘Lallu’, the party has finally made some moves. Uttar Pradesh has been divided into six zones and changes have been made in the areas of national secretaries on the instructions of Congress general secretary and UP incharge Priyanka Gandhi.
The party has divided the state into six zones whose responsibility has been entrusted with all the six national secretaries who have been made state incharges. With this move, six zonal presidents are also likely to be appointed in the UPCC. One leader may be tasked with coordinating with Priyanka Gandhi and the national secretaries.
The fresh move was also seen as the party’s efforts to gear up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
UP Congress spokesperson Ashok Singh said that national secretary Dheeraj Gurjar has been given the charge of Awadh zone, which includes Lucknow, Unnao, Bahraich, Barabanki, Balrampur, Shravasti, Gonda, Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Hardoi and Rae Bareli districts. Similarly, national secretary Satya Narayan Patel has been given the charge of Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Basti, Kushinagar, Azamgarh, Mau, Deoria, Ballia, Sant Kabir Nagar, Faizabad and Ambedkar Nagar districts of the Purvanchal zone.
National secretary Rajesh Tiwari has been given the charge of Varanasi, Ghazipur, Chandauli, Jaunpur, Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Kaushambi, Allahabad, Pratapgarh, Amethi and Sultanpur of the Prayagraj zone.
National secretary Nilanshu Chaturvedi has been given the charge of Kanpur, Kanpur Dehat, Kannauj, Auraiya, Jalaun, Mahoba, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Banda, Chitrakoot, Fatehpur, Hamirpur and Etawah districts of the Bundelkhand-Kanpur zone.
National secretary Tauqir Alam has been sent to the Braj Zone districts, including Mathura, Agra, Firozabad, Etah, Mainpuri, Kasganj, Aligarh, Hathras, Badaun, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Pilibhit and Farrukhabad.
National secretary Pradeep Narwal has been given the charge of west zone districts of Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Sambhal, Meerut, Bijnor, Hapur, Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur and Gautam Budh Nagar.
