With Sonia Gandhi taking up the issue of better compensation to the farmers whose crop was demagaed in un-seasonal rains and hail-storm, the Party leaders here in lucknow, staged a protest, demanding dismissal of Union Minister Giriraj Singh for his “racist” and “distasteful” remarks against party President. They also burnt the effigy of the union minister and threatened that the protest would be intensified if Singh was not removed from the ministry.

Congress leaders collected here at Party’s state head-quarter and took out procession for about 100 meters on Thursday evening. They raised slogans both against Giriraj Singh and prime minister Narendra Modi and demanded removal of the union minister for his remarks. later as soon as the leaders reached lal Bhadhur Shastri Road, they brunt the effigy of Giriraj, to register their protest.

Former Congress president, Dr Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who was main leader present at the spot besides former home minister, Satyadeo Tripathi,  condemned the statement made by Giriraj. RsRsCongress all over the country would not tolerate such remarks on our leader Sonia Gandhi and we would fought on the street till Modi will sack his union minister”, Joshi asserted. Taking on Giriaj for his remarks, Satyadeo said that not just Sonia Gandhi, but such comments could not be tolerated if used against anyone, particularly against a woman. RsRsBy maintaining a silence on the issue, prime minister Narendra Modi had just endorsed the comment made his cabinet colleague and it reflects the mindset of the BJP and it’s senior leaders”, Tripathi added.

Meanwhile, Sonia Gandhi, who visited her Parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli last week, had written a letter to chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav, on Thursday asking him to review the losses incurred to the crop in recent un-seasonal rains and hail storm. Gandhi said that she visited Rae Bareli and also got information from other areas that the farmers suffered a huge loss to their crops but the assessment made by the local authorities had put this damage to just about 15 per cent. She claimed that the above assessment is not just right but under the laid rules, the farmers would get nothing until the estimated loss is 50 percent or more.

Gandhi said that this would not just hit the farmers hard but would also forced many to end their lives so chief minister must immediately intervene in the matter and get the assessment done again. She also requested Yadav to ensure that the farmers who were backbone of the country’s economy should get full government support so that they could fight this national calamity and come out of it to contribute in the nation’s economy in the future also.
