Congress accused Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati for misguiding the media as well as general public on issue of implementation of Food Security Act.
It is better that Mayawati should first go in-depth of provisions made in Food Security Act than level allegations on us of fooling the public", claimed spokesman of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) Virendra Madan while reacting sharply to Mayawati’s allegations that Congress is putting dust in the eyes of the public by making agitation regarding implementation of Food Security Act. In a press conference on Friday, Mayawati claimed that Congress is cheating everyone as it is very difficult for State Governments who were also facing financial crisis to implement it until all necessary budgetary provisions has been made by the Centre for it’s execution.
Replying to Mayawati’s allegations here on Saturday evening, Madan clarified that some state governments raised issue of expenditure incurred on transportation of food grains for distribution under the above Act but this matter has been already resolved after Centre assured of bearing all the costs. It may be mentioned here that the as per the provisions modified by Central Government they will forward help to state governments on the problems raised by them and not assured of bearing all the costs that would incurred on transportation from godowns to fair price shops as disclosed by Madan.
Giving further details of their on-going agitation on Food Security Act, Virendra Madan said that after successful demonstration and ghearo of Vidhan Sabha on last Thursday, now all the district units of the Congress would made same show at their respective districts head-quarters. He said that rallies will be also organised at district level to make people aware of the provisions and benefit that they would get after successful implementation of the Act. Madan further said that that Party will also take up the issues related to cane growers particularly on support price towards their crop. He disclosed that State President Nirmal Khatri would camp here from coming Wednesday to draw a strategy for carrying out fight for justice for the cane growers.
We have full support for the cane growers as they were the worst sufferers of government’s apathy towards their genuine demands", claimed Madan adding that earlier Bahujan Samaj Government auctioned sugar mills at throw away prices which hit the cane growers and now the Samajwadi Party government had made a deal with mill owners. He claimed that the Government’s move would ultimately hit the cane growers as they would be forced either to sell their product for pea nuts or to burn them in their field as they would not get even transportation charges. Congress spokesman said that they will soon launch an agitation to ensure that cane growers should get good support price for their crop.
