Playing the good samaritan, State Information Commissioner afeezUsan motivated a couple to sink differences and live the rest of their live happily together.
Ironically, the couple was separated due to the ‘side-effects’ of an Right to Information (RTI) Act application filed by the wife against her husband seeking personal information about his caste.
Detailing the case on Tuesday, the SIC said that he wanted the couple not to fight over a non-issue and live with their children. Hence the appeal bythe woman filed before the SIC was not finalised for almost two years. Afterintervention ofthe SIC, the couple reached an agreement to bury the past and move on together happily.
SIC said that it was a pleasant surprise for him as the two had already divorced in the mid of hearing as the chasm between them widened after the lady filed the RTI. However, the SIC succeeded in disposing of the appeal on a happy note and probably for the first time, was able to send both parties ‘happily’ from his court.
Earlier, Rumana Israr of Kot Baradari in Bareilly filed an RTI seeking information about the caste of her husband Abrar Miya, posted as crafts instructor at Juvenile Home in Moradabad.
Rumana claimed that Abrar concealed that he was a backward duringthe marriage ceremony. This concealment upset the wife and she went to live with her parents. She field the RTI to know about the exact caste of her husband so she could seek divorce. During probe by the DM of Moradabad, the SIC found out that the couple was living separately despite having two sons. The kids used to stay with Rumana but Abrar bore their expenses and even gave money to Rumana.
“last year, during hearing of the appeal, Abrar got agitated and the two mutually got divorced. However, as the appeal in the RTI court was still to be disposed, the two kept visiting the SIC office. In due course, both realised that they could not live away from each other and reached a compromise to re-marry and live together with their children,” the SIC informed.
