Rashtriya Lok Dal national spokesperson Anupam Mishra said on Saturday that the CMO’s referral letter for admission of critically ill patients to a Covid hospital was akin to a death warrant for not only the patients but also their attending relatives.
Mishra accused the state government of being the killer of innocent people, when millions were in the grip of the killer viral infection and thousands of victims succumbed painfully on the doorstep of hospitals.
“Being forced in such a situation, the requirement of a referral letter of CMO to be admitted shows how insensitive the government has been to the sufferings of the public. Members of the victim’s family are compelled to stand in queue for the CMO’s referral letter outside the office throughout the day. Due to this mismanagement, hundreds of people have perished so far,” he said.
The RLD leader further said that even as hundreds of oxygenated beds were lying vacant in DRDO, SGPGI, KGMU, Balrampur and other hospitals, they were of no use to needy patients in the lack of a CMO’s referral letter.
“Serious patients are being forced to suffer. How can the CMO referral letter be so important? And how can a government be so insensitive?,” Mishra asked.
Speaking on the acute short supply of oxygen, the RLD spokesman said that small hospitals were struggling with lack of oxygen which forced them to stop admitting serious corona infected patients.
“Patients in home isolation also suffer due to lack of oxygen. A number of acorona-affected patients have to wait outside the oxygen plant for eight to ten hours every day and even then he does not know if his oxygen cylinder will be refilled,” he said.
Mishra urged the chief minister to abolish the outlandish rule of procuring a CMO’s referral immediately and patients be admitted directly, failing which hundreds of lives will be lost due to the global pandemic and the state government would be held responsible for these deaths.
