In an effort to restore the sporting culture in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government will felicitate the Tokyo Olympics medal winners on Thursday.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be felicitating Tokyo Olympic medalists with cash prizes for bringing laurels to the country in an event organised at the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium on Thursday.
The players to be felicitated are Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu, Ravi Dahiya, Bajrang Punia, Lovlina Borgohain, PV Sindhu and Indian men’s hockey team.
Women’s hockey team, which finished fourth, will also be honoured. Lalit Kumar Upadhyay and Vandana Kataria of Uttar Pradesh were part of men’s and women’s hockey teams respectively.
Earlier, the chief minister had invited suggestions from athletes to develop Uttar Pradesh as a ‘Sports Hub’.
