Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking release of funds under the Bundelkhand package so that development work could be carried out full steam.

In his letter, which was released to media on Friday, Yadav said that Bundelkhand is one of the most backward areas of the state and the Samajwadi Party government is doing its best to bring this region out of backwardness and poverty.

“The central government has approved Rs 3521 crore for the development of Bundelkhand. But till date the state has received only Rs 1845 crore. Under the 11th Five year scheme UP has receieved Rs 1500 crore against allocated Rs 1578 crore. Thus, UP has not received central assistance in full affecting implementation of development work in the region,” Chief Minister said.

He said in 2015-16 Union Government has delinked central assistance of BRGF from many projects. Thus government assistance for Bundelkhand will also stop. This will adversely hit development of Bundelkhand region, he said and requested continuation of central assistance as earlier.
