Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling on Triple Talaq saying it is justice given to the women who have been shunned by their husbands because of wrong interpretation of Islamic laws.
In his reaction the CM said: “It is a historic judgement and is beginning of a new journey for the women and it will not only empower them but also allow them to live with self-respect.”
Yogi further said that declaring Triple Talaq as unconstitutional the court has upheld the rights of women and gives relief to them against discrimination that is prevalent in India for many ages.
“SC verdict is also recognition of the rights of Muslim women,” Yogi said in his statement.
The court by majority verdict has set aside the practice of divorce through triple talaq among Muslims saying it was void, illegal and unconstitutional.
UP government spokesperson and state health minister Sidharthnath Singh too welcomed the SC decision. “ Such verdicts strengthens the country’s secular root and gives equal right to the women,” he said.
Meanwhile, BJP MP from Unnao Sakshi Maharaj said that the decision of the apex court itself is a law. “The government should follow the direction and make a strong law so that the people who were behind denying the rights to the women are punished,” he said.
