CM wants institutions to make accountable and result-oriented

It is professionals and not `netas’ who are likely to head important state run corporations as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wanted that all institutions be made accountable and be result-oriented.

A senior official told ‘The Pioneer’ in lucknow on Monday that the Chief Minister believes that political leaders have spoiled corporations as majority of these have turned into white elephants with the passage of time. “Therefore, the CM believes that important corporations should be headed by professionals,” he said.

All departments have their corporations who work independently as autonomous bodies. Be it PWD, Irrigation, Food and Civil Supplies or Agriculture - all important departments have their corporations. This has been a practise with previous governments to annoint those political leaders or law makers as Chairperson, who could not be adjusted in the government. Some of these posts carry the rank of Minister of State and leaders enjoyed the status.

“All important corporations will not have Chairmperson this time. The Chief Minister wants that professionals be appointed to those posts. Scouting for merotorious incubents has already started and the state government will start appointment of chairperson of these corporations probably by next month. Some small corporations or corporations of lesser significance may have politicians as chairmperson,” the official said.

Incidentally, politicians believe that after Government of India’s order to ban red beacon, the charm of chairmanship has gone down. “leaders wanted the post for `lal batti’. When this right of batti has been taken away, why should one bother about these posts,” a senior BJP leader said.

In previous government there were allegations that people `paid’ money to get chairman’s postbut these allegations were never authenticated.
