Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav does not appear to be fully satisfied with the working of the state police force. He feels that though the policemen have done a lot of good work, there are instances in which the government finds it difficult to justify the acts of cops.
"The police force helps in improving the image of the government but it can also cause irreparable damage to it with a single mistake. Such mistakes overshadow all the good work of the cops," Akhilesh Yadav said while expressing concern over some incidents which have embarrassed the Government.
The Chief Minister was addressing officers and personnel of the police force at a function organised here to lay the foundation stone of 'Police Bhawan', a signature building which will house all the major wings of the police force. "I do not want to go into details. I have indicated a lot in the recent Police Week programme. You have done some very good works but some things have happened which we have not been able to justify," he said. "There is a majority government in the state and so the aspirations of the people are also high. Other departments are doing their work but the biggest responsibility is that of the police force. If people have more confidence in you, it will take the state on the path of development," he said.
Congratulating Director General of Police, Rizwan Ahmed, Yadav said the state police chief was giving the force a good building as a parting gift before his retirement slated at the end of this month.
Besides the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary Jawed Usmani, Principal Secretary (Home) AK Gupta and DGP Rizwan Ahmed were also present at the function.
The government has allotted 10 acre land in Gomti Nagar Extension and sanctioned over Rs63 crore for the 'Police Bhawan'.
The funds for the multi-storeyed, hi-tech building having all the latest gadgets, including a roof-top helipad, will be sanctioned in phases. In the first phase, the Government has sanctioned Rs47.50 crore.
The state Government also engaged Nabi Mumbai-based Ms Stup Consultant Private limited as consultant and has appointed Rajkiya Nirman Nigam as the nodal agency for the construction of the building. Besides the DGP office, the building will house the offices of Police Headquarters, UP Police Recruitment and Promotional Board, Rules and Manuals, PAC
Headquarters, PAC Central and East zones, Training Directorate, Anti-Corruption Establishment, Traffic Directorate, Special Investigation Team, Fire Services Directorate, Special Enquiry, Government Railway Police, Human Rights, Technical Services, Economic Offence Wing, Cooperative, Prosecution, State Crime Record Bureau, Food Cell, Special Protection Battalion, Crime Investigation Department and Security Directorate.
