With an aim to give impetus to the higher education Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has urged the Union Government to release its share of money for construction of Indian Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT) at the earliest.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister said that the state government has decided to set up an IIIT, as suggested by Union Government, at PPP model in the state.
“The total cost to set up the institution would be Rs 128 crore. The centre is supposed to share the 50 per cent of the total cost and the rest would be borne by the state government. On our part we have already released Rs 20.18 crore and had requested the centre to release its share,” Yadav said in his letter which was released here
on Monday.
He said that despite many requests to the HRD ministry the money has not been released so far. “I request your intervention so that the money could be released and work could be started at the earliest,” he said.
Chief Minister said as per the memorandum of understanding the first board would be set up by the centre in consultation with the state government and industries’ partner. “Therefore it is important we should have a Board of Governors. The State government has sent three names for this coveted post but the centre is yet to select one name,”
he said.
“If centre appoints Board of Governor it will take a first step towards setting up of the institute,” he said.
