To ensure that children get school uniforms in time, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has transferred Rs 1,100 into the accounts of the parents of schoolchildren to purchase uniforms, sweaters, shoes, and school bags.
The government claimed that Rs 1,980 crore had been transferred through DBT to the bank accounts of parents of more than 1.60 crore students for free uniforms within the next two months.
This scheme will benefit students of primary, upper primary schools and non-government aided primary/pre-secondary schools.
“This government is committed to the welfare of the people. This scheme will ensure that children will not suffer in this winter and will get school uniforms at their doorsteps,” Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said during the function held here on Saturday.
The chief minister said that education was the only medium to ensure a good future for the students, state and country alike. “Therefore, it was the promise of the government to provide quality education to the children in state-run schools. We have introduced NCERT syllabus in government schools and are now providing them (schoolchildren) dress free of cost,” Yogi said at a function in which he transferred the money with the click of the mouse. He said the money transferred through DBT would ensure there was no corruption during transactions.
The chief minister said the money was transferred in a transparent manner. “This decision will develop a market at the local level which in turn will generate self-employment opportunities in rural areas,” he said.
It is to be noted that at present, free uniforms are provided to the students of classes 1 to 8 by the government. These are arranged through different processes.
The chief minister said that in 2017, only 30 lakh children were enrolled in school but now 1.81 crore children are going to schools. He said it was the responsibility of teachers to ensure that children came to school in uniforms. He said there were more than six lakh teachers, instructors, Shiksha mitras in the state, if they took up this responsibility then this dream could also become possible.
The chief minister said that the government had decided that every school would be adopted by public representatives so that the students of basic education got other basic facilities, including clean drinking water.
Under this scheme, out of 1.60 lakh schools of basic education, 1.33 lakh schools have been included in this scheme, in which sports ground and boundary wall have been constructed.
