Wednesday will be a very special day for the Gorakhpur Zoo when the Wildlife Week is being celebrated amidst various programmes.

On this day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will allow Geeta, a white tigress brought to the Gorakhpur Zoo two and a half months ago, to enter the main enclosure along with naming two leopard cubs.

With the Chief Minister allowing the white tiger to enter the main enclosure, tourists will now be able to see it. The zoo administration is busy making preparations for the chief minister's programme.

Giving this information here on Monday evening, an official spokesman claimed that the credit for setting up a zoo in Gorakhpur goes to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

He launched it in March 2021.

His intention is to make Gorakhpur Zoo (Shaheed Ashfaqullah Khan Zoological Park) one of the rarest zoos in the country. On his own initiative, during his second term as chief minister, it was decided to give the gift of white tiger to Gorakhpur Zoo in the 100-day action plan of the government. Following the action plan, on the night of June 20, a white tigress named Geeta was sent from Lucknow Zoo to Gorakhpur Zoo. This white tiger was first quarantined for adaptation and then kept in a crawl.

The spokesman claimed that Yogi Adityanath will give a new gift to the tourists by releasing the white tiger from the crawl to the main enclosure at Gorakhpur Zoo on Wednesday.

On arrival at the zoo, Yogi Adityanath will also name two cubs of the leopard. The cubs are kept in the hospital of the zoo.

Along with this, the zoo administration is also preparing the release of two Himalayan Black Bears being brought from Kanpur Zoo by the chief minister.

It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is known for setting an example of law and order, development and public welfare programmes in the country's largest state in terms of population, as well as for his affection towards animals.

Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had come to Gorakhpur Zoo on March 18 and fed bananas to two rhinos named Har and Gauri. When the chief minister affectionately called both the rhinos by their names, they came to him in the enclosure.
