With an aim to improve education standard in Government schools of Uttar Pradesh the Yogi Government is contemplating to bring an ordinance to ensure regular attendance of teachers in state-run schools as well as to regulate admission and fees in private schools.
A highly placed source said that Chief Minister has made it clear that he would ensure students should get quality education in schools and for this directives have been given to ensure regular attendance of teachers in the schools.
“The Government might bring an ordinance that would look into two basic issues – one attendance of teachers and second regulate admission in schools. The government might also suggest a fee structure for non-aided private schools,” a senior official in the government told The Pioneer here on Wednesday.
The suggestion to bring an ordinance came during the review meeting of the education department which continued till almost mid-night on Monday. The next day Chief Secretary Rahul Bhatnagar asked officials to prepare a draft ordinance encompassing issues that were discussed in the meeting.
The official said that CM has stressed on regular attendance of teachers. A suggestion came that teachers could be asked to take a selfie with students during morning meeting and send the same to the nodal officer.
“CM is also of the opinion if doing away with mid-day meal system. He asked officers to look for options where students can get quality food as well as teachers are not bogged down in work like arranging MDM for the students,” the official said and added CM wants that money should be sent to students’ account directly so that he can bring home cooked food to school.
A delegation of senior officials will also go to neighbouring states to study how they are performing in basic education sector. UP should accept positives from these states, official said.
