Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tabled the state Goods and Services Tax Bill in the Assembly on Monday. Consideration and passage of the Bill is the most important legislative business that the government wants to complete in the first session. The House was adjourned for the day after tabling of the state GST Bill which will be taken up for approval later this week.

later in the afternoon, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a workshop on GST Bill for the legislators. The workshop was organised at the initiative of Assembly Speaker Hriday Naryan Dikshit.

The workshop on GST bill was organised by Assembly Secretariat for members of both Houses of the UP legislature to understand its provisions and enable them to take part in the debate.

In his address, the CM said, “UP will become the ninth state of India after the state GST Bill is passed by the Assembly during the current session.’’

``I am overwhelmed by the huge turnout of MlAs and MlCs of all parties. It’s indeed very encouraging that legislators cutting across the party line are participating in the workshop on GST, which is the biggest tax reform in India post-independence,’’ said Yogi.

``The hall is packed to the capacity. This led me to believe that Speaker Hriday Naryan Dikshit has mobilised crowd from his Assembly segment in Unnao. But I realised that those present here are all legislators as I know each of them personally,’’ said the Chief Minister.

Yogi urged the legislators to take active part in debate on the state GST Bill during consideration and its passage. `` It’s a very important legislation which is going to immensely impact the life of the common people. legislators would add to the glory of the Assembly by their effective participation in the debate over the Bill in the House,’’ said Yogi.

The Parliament has already passed  the `Central Goods and Services Tax Bill, 2017, Integrated Goods and Services Tax Bill, 2017, Union Territory Goods and Services Tax Bill, 2017 and Goods and Services Tax (Compensation to States) Bill, 2017 during the last budget session in March.

The GST, the single biggest tax reform in India post-independence subsumes all indirect taxes levied by the Centre and states and will come into force from July 1.

Before this deadline, all 29 state Assemblies of the India have to pass the state GST Bill. So far eight Assemblies have passed their respective state GST Bills.
