Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stressed on the expansion of milk supplier `Parag’ in the state to ensure smiles on the faces of farmers. Yogi said that with popular brand `Amul’ installing more units in UP, it would help the farmers to get better return for their produce and attain self-reliance.
Yogi said this after attending a meeting of Dairy Development department in lucknow on Saturday. Earlier, the CM inspected Amul’s milk processing unit of 5 lakh litre capacity on Sultanpur Road installed under Banaskantha Zila Sahkari Dugdh Utapadak Sangh (Banaskanth District Cooperative Milk Producing Union).
As per a government release on Saturday, Yogi said that to facilitate farmers with better profit, expansion of `Parag’ was very necessary and this was only possible by competing with other players.
Yogi said that more milk processing units should by installed by Parag under it’s expansion plan but it should be only done after making proper survey of the output of milk in that area and how marketing of products could be handled to ensure better returns to the farmers as well as `Parag’.
Hailing the efforts of `Amul’ for forwarding better profits to farmers of the state by expanding their units in UP, Yogi said that the sale of processed and good quality milk in the market without shortage will also help the state government in checking sale of adulterated and synthetic milk.
The CM said that UP produced two times more milk as compared to Gujarat. So for better and planned marketing of processed milk, more units were required and hence he asked the Amul group to extend support to Parag for not only giving competitive push to milk industry but also to benefit cattle owners get more profit.
Yogi also expressed his concern over decrease in Parag’s Milk Cooperative Unions from 59 to 18 and said that a more comprehensive policy should be formulated to revive the organisation.
The CM also highlighted that low capacity processing units of Parag were a major reason for it’s losses. Hence, the Federation should take help of Amul, not just for raising capacity but also for settingup more processing units and devise better marketing strategy on the lines of Amul.
Yogi directed that the capacity of processing units in Gorakhpur be immediately raised from 1 lakh litre to 3 lakh litres per day while the oen in Varanasi be raised from 4 lakh litre to 6 lakh litres per day.
Th CM said that as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the Varanasi plant should be handed over to Amul for better operations, while the plants at Gorakhpur and Kanpur be operated on the lines of Amul.
Yogi also said that the areas in Gorakhpur and adjoining to Bihar and Nepal, did not have shortage of rainfall and fodder and hence more thrust be given to the region for expansion of milk industry.
