Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met family members of the Kanpur businessman who died mysteriously during a police raid in Gorakhpur on Monday night.
The chief minister assured the businessman's wife, Meenakshi, that she would be given a government job (OSD in Kanpur Development Authority) and asked the district administration to pay the family a compensation of more than Rs 10 lakh.
Yogi Adityanath also consoled the victim’s widow and assured her that the investigation into the case would be transferred to Kanpur Nagar and that no one found guilty would be spared.
Later, after assurance by the chief minister, the victim's family went ahead with the cremation on Thursday.
Sources said that in the letter to the chief minister, Meenakshi demanded that the case be probed by the CBI and the trial be held in a fast-track court in Kanpur as she could not travel to Gorakhpur frequently. She also said that action be taken against the hotel where the death occurred.
The letter says, "I live with my father-in-law, who is a senior citizen, and with my son who is five. I have no source of income. I request you to ensure that my family gets justice. I should be given a government job. We should be given compensation of Rs 50 lakh.”
Meanwhile, Yogi Adityanath on Thursday ordered the dismissal of police officers/personnel from service who are involved in very serious crimes.
According to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister's Office (CMO), following the Gorakhpur incident, the chief minister has ordered the dismissal from service of police officers/personnel who are involved in very serious crimes. Tainted personnel will not be deputed to important positions in the field.
Recently there have been complaints of some police officers/personnel indulging in illegal activities. The chief minister has said that this is not acceptable at all.
"There should be no place for such people in the police department. Identify such people with proof and provide a list. Action will be taken against all as per rules," Yogi Adityanath said.
