Going ahead with his development spree, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav laid the foundation stone of a hospital named after Samajwadi Party chief and his father Mulayam Singh Yadav here. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for Mulayam Singh Yadav Medical College and Hospital at lalpur in Kharkauda around 20 km from the district headquarters on Saturday. The CM reached Meerut by road from New Delhi where he attended the marriage ceremony of cricketer Suresh Raina on Friday night. Addressing a function held on the occasion, the Chief Minister said his government had given medical infrastructure top priority along with other development issues in the state.

“The SP Government was doing everything it can do to serve the people,” he said. Justifying his christening the hospital after his father’s name, he said: “There is no private or Government building or any monument in the state named after the SP supremo, although Etawah has a Government college named Amitabh Bachchan Rajkiya Inter College. Even Saifai, the native village of the Yadavs, does not have any such building”.

The CM also laid the foundation stone for developmental projects worth around Rs110 crores on the occasion. There was a minor disturbance at the function when local SP leader Abbas tried to go on the dais breaking the security cordon. The upcoming medical college is being built by KSD charitable trust run by the family of SP MlC Sarojini Agarwal. The members  claimed that the medical college would be fully functional in 2016 while the hospital would start in June this year. The work on the project started in September. The project would come up on an area of 20 acre and also have nursing and paramedical colleges.

The  medical college will have 150 seats for MBBS students, 40 each for nursing and paramedical courses. The officials of the trust defended the CM’s naming spree and claimed that if the university in Meerut and the airport in lucknow could be named after Chaudhary Charan Singh, this institute could be named after Mulayam Singh. Party sources said the SP supremo was initially reluctant that his name be tagged with an institution, but agreed when SP MlC Sarojni Agarwal insisted on it.
