Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav held over an hour long meeting with Governor Ram Naik on Tuesday where later suggested that the government should celebrate January 24 as Uttar Pradesh Day.
“It was a long meeting between Chief Minister and Governor when both discussed many issues. Chief Minister briefed Governor about the present political situations in the state while Governor offered some suggestions to Yadav,” a senior official in Raj Bhawan told The Pioneer on Tuesday.
One of the suggestions put forth by Governor was to suggest January 24 as Uttar Pradesh Day because on that day notification for formation of United Province was signed. United Province was later re-christened as Uttar Pradesh.
“The Governor also asked Chief Minister to chalk out policies to bring leprosy people in the mainstream, The Governor even suggested that these people should be given jobs and financial help,” the source said.
On his part Chief Minister briefed Governor about his meeting with Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal and his experience in Planning Commission. “The CM also briefed Governor about Yadav Singh’s case and the action the state government has taken,” he said.
The meeting continued for over an hour between the two, he said.
The meeting has also sparked speculations about a cabinet expansion as Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav had recently voiced his annoyance over the working of some ministers. It is speculated that Akhilesh Yadav was willing to drop some ministers.
Incidentally, Governor and Chief Minister enjoy blow hot, blow cold relations. Governor has at many occasions voiced anger over prevailing law and order situation in the state. He had also questioned as how Yadav Singh had amassed such a huge wealth.
