Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hit out at the Opposition for the boycott of Budget session of Assembly saying that they were escapists and had no moral courage to face the truth about their acts of indiscretion while in power.
“Criminals had a free run during the long spell of SP-BSP rule in the state. The accused of 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots were ferried to lucknow in a state government plane to meet the then Chief Minister. In fact, UP was thrown into a communal cauldron by the previous Samajwadi Party government,‘’ said the Chief Minister in the Assembly while making concluding remarks on budgetary grants of Home and General Administration department on Thursday.
“We are unable to comprehend as to on which issue were they opposing the government and boycotting the Assembly. The Opposition supports every illegal activity. They are troubled by our campaign to restore law and order as the government has launched anti-Romeo operation, drive against land mafia and closure of illegal slaughter houses and curbs on illegal transport of cattle,’’ said Yogi.
“The Opposition is also troubled by the prompt action by the police to work out heinous crimes like gang rape, murder and dacoities. This is evident from the statement of Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday, who accused the police of working out crimes in hasty manner,’’said the Chief Minister.
Accusing former CM Akhilesh Yadav of using the state police as a `political tool for his narrow political ends’, the CM said, “The SP is against good policing and prompt police action. During Akhilesh Yadav’s regime, the police administration was paralysed. With this kind of mindset the rule of law can never be established in the state.’’
Questioning the Opposition for frequently raising the issue of law and order, the CM said, “Opposition wants to fix accountability for our four-month of rule in UP while the last 15 years of uninterrupted rule of Samajwadi Party and the BSP destroyed the social fabric and the state was turned into grazing field of anti-social elements.’’
Making a frontal attack on the Opposition for sheltering criminals, Yogi said, “Criminals were given political patronage by the previous regimes and they indulged in crime with impunity. The Opposition is now unhappy with the government as we have ordered a crackdown.’’
“The recent arrest of the prime accused in Azamgarh hooch tragedy, where several people lost their lives and the arrest of a dreaded criminal in Ambedkarnagar, are ample proofs that how criminals were patronised by these politicians. It will be embarrassing for the Opposition if I reveal political affiliations of the dreaded criminal arrested in Ambedkar Nagar,’’said the Chief Minister.
In his 55 minute speech, Yogi said that his government took a series of measures to improve law and order and in the past four months, the crime rate has gone down while the police cracked several serious incidents of crime.
The CM listed recent cases of crime like Jewar gangrape and murder and recovery of two kidnapped bullion traders of Jhansi from Agra.
Yogi Adityanath also announced several new projects to improve the police system with the setting up of a State Disaster Management Force (SDRF) on the lines of the NDRF, introducing new software in Dial 100 where any complaint would simultaneously go to all police officers of the district, model police stations in every district and linking Dial 100 with 108 Ambulances and Fire services.
Blaming the previous SP regime for the spurt in communal riots in UP, Yogi said that during the past three years of SP rule there were 450 incidents of riots, but in the BJP’s four-month rule, not a single riot took place in the state.
Detailing police action in his four-month rule, the CM said that anti-Romeo squad took action against 1,580 people and lodged 763 FIRs, 5,773.75 hectares of gram sabha land and 1,020 hectares of government land was freed under the drive against land and FIRs were registered against 1,035 people.
Speaking on action against petrol pumps for short weighing of fuel, the CM said 45 pumps were sealed, 145 pumps were found tampering with nozzles and 539 were providing less petrol to consumers in the state.
