There is a good news for farmers of Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has hinted at some relief for the rural sector from the power tariff hike announced by the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission.
''Because of power sector being in red my government was forced to increase the power tariff. But efforts would be on to give some respite to the farmers,'' Yadav announced during a press meet here on Sunday.
UP Electricity Regularity Commission (UPERC) on May 31 had recommended a hike of 45 per cent for the rural and 35 per cent for the urban power consumers. New power tariff are likely to be enforced from Monday.
Yadav said that his government was committed to end the power crisis in future and the hike was required to maintain the health of the UP Power Corporation limited (UPPCl).
