Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on being awarded the ‘Champions of The Earth’ award, the highest environmental honour given by the United Nations.

“This honour is recognition of the Prime Minister’s relentless efforts to make the Earth safe for generations to come. His vision has not only been acknowledged at international level but has also been appreciated,” Yogi said in a statement issued here on Friday.

“The Prime Minister has enhanced the respect, honour and stature of India on global forums,” the Chief Minister said, adding that this success had brought immense happiness to the people of the country.

It may be pointed out that the UN has decided to honour Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the ‘Champions of the Earth Award’ under the ‘Policy Leadership’ category for his efforts to completely end the use of single use plastic in India by the year 2022, and other major steps taken in the field of environment, including forging of international solar alliance.

Yogi Adityanath said that protection and conservation of environment and nature were an integral part of India’s traditions and culture and Prime Minister Modi was getting this acknowledged on global platforms by his efforts.

“It was Modi’s efforts that the United Nations Organisation (UNO) unanimously decided to observe June 21 as the International Yoga Day,” the CM said.

UNESCO had also included the Kumbh as ‘humanity’s intangible cultural heritage’, the Chief Minister pointed out.

He said that the Prime Minister had successfully ensured, through projects like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Namami Gange to strike a balance between environmental conservation, health and hygiene.

“The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has been appreciated by the World Health Organisation (WHO),” Yogi said.
