Hitting out at the state government the state unit of BJP said that the Akhilesh Yadav government has failed to provide relief to the pilgrims of the state stranded in Uttarakhand.

''The Chief Minister was only interested in distributing laptops for political reasons and was not at all concerned for the thousands of pilgrims from UP who are still stranded in Uttarakhand,'' Chief Spokesman of BJP Vijay Bahadur Pathak said here on Monday. The statement on the day when Chief Minister said that his government will provide relief to the pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh who are stranded there.

In his daily press briefing Pathak said on pressure from the opposition parties the state government announced to set up a helpline but it was not working properly. Besides, the coordination between officials was lacking. ''No ministers of the UP government had gone to Uttarakhand to monitor the rescue operation of the UP pilgrims so far,'' he said.  The BJP leader was also very critical on the part of theofficials of the UP government deployed in the districts fighting on the bodies recovered from the rivers flowing  from Uttarakhand. '' Dispute over the area where the bodies has been recovered proves the in-sensitiveness of the state government and its official,'' he said.

Meanwhile, in a statement Pathak said that middlemen were making hay in the purchase of wheat as farmers faced the brunt of tacit understanding between middlemen and officials manning wheat purchase centres."Fearing large scale loss these farmers sold their produce to middle men. Besides the wheat purchase centres too did not work effectively," he said and added that the tall claims of the state government to provide good remunerative to the farmers has fallen flat.
