Taking a cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to MPs to adopt a village, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has assigned a Rsgreen task’ to Uttar Pradesh legislators to plant trees in their neighborhood to save the environment.
The law makers of other political parties are yet to react to this CM’s appeal but around 200 Samajwadi Party Members MlAs and MlCs would soon undertake a mass tree plantation drive in the state capital in accordance with Yadav’s appeal.
The idea behind the drive is to spread the message of ‘Clean UP, Green UP’ mooted by the CM. The campaign will kick off at the Gomti Nagar based Janeshwar Mishra park. There Yadav will announce law makers to plant trees in their neighborhood, in their constituency and around their offices and ensure they prosper, a senior party leader said. Though the exact date of the campaign is yet to be finalised, sources said it would begin before the CM leaves for an official tour to China onApril 21. The project would be ready before the monsoon sets in.
“The forest officials have been asked to arrange the saplings of different tree varieties including Parijat, neem and peepal. Some saplings which are not available in the region have been ordered from Tamil Nadu and West Bengal,” said the party leader. This campaign is also linked with the clause of 14th Finance Commission which advocates states to have more green cover. More green cover means more funds from the centre,
