CM directs for betterment of state roads

Realising that good roads can guarantee return of Samajwadi Party Government to power post 2017, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has asked officials to connect district headquarters with roads and construct nine major bridges by the end of this year.

In a review meeting of roads and bridges held at his residence on Sunday Yadav said that development of a state is directly related to condition of roads. “Better the road, chances of a state galloping to the path of development is high,” Yadav told officials.

He said considering this fact the emphasis of this government is linking all district headquarters with four lane roads, construction of Agra-lucknow Expressway and construction of bridges on all major rivers.

Officials informed CM that so far 49 district headquarters are lined by four lane roads constructed either state PWD or NHAI. They said Shamli is now connected with four-lane road while work is in progress to link Chitrakoot, Deoria, Balrampur, lakhimpur Khiri, Hardoi and Gonda. The officials were asked to complete construction by this fiscal year.

“NHAI has assured that construction of roads connecting Banda, Amethi and Pilibhit would be completed by the end of this year,” official assured CM.

The CM was also informed that feasibility report and cost estimate of Samajwadi Purvanchal Expressway would be presented by Project Development Consultant by June 15. The Uttar Pradesh State Highway Authority (UPSHA) was asked to complete construction of Varanasi-Shakti nagar highway by the end of this month.

Chief Minister, however, showed satisfaction over progress of lucknow-Agra Expressway. The officials said that the way it is progressing they are confident to complete construction by October this year.
