With major rivers in Uttar Pradesh being in spate, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav directed District Magistrates on Tuesday, to prepare blueprints on providing assistance to flood-hit people and has also earmarked funds for maintenance of dams and bundhs.
“The officials should ensure everything is at place in flood-affected villages. They should prepare contingency plans and breaches in the bundhs should be plugged at the earliest,” Yadav said during a meeting held in lucknow.
Yadav said that the state government has already sanctioned Rs 300 crores to meet any exigency. “If need be, the government will release more funds. Money would not be a problem in extending relief to the people at the time of such peril,” he said. The CM asked the DMs of flood prone districts to monitor water levels of river in their districts regularly.
Yadav also issued directives for a check on spread of diseases in flood-hit districts. He said that the government was concerned about checking the spread of vector-borne diseases in the districts that are affected by floods.
Yadav asked Chief Medical Officers to take appropriate steps in this regard and ensure that there was no shortage of medicines.
“As many as 18 districts are reeling under flood condition, hence there should be no scarcity of the medicines and the medical staff,” the CM said.
According to Central Water Commission, major rivers continued to flow over the danger mark at a number of places in the state.
