Amid the steep rise in novel coronavirus positive cases in the state, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked officials to increase the number of beds reserved for COVID-19 patients in all the government as well as private hospitals.
"This will improve the bed availability and also check the figures of rapidly surging novel coronavirus positive cases in Uttar Pradesh," a government spokesman said.
He said the state government was all geared up so that people do not face any hardship during the tough times of the pandemic.
With this decision, there will be an increase of around Covid 278 beds.
"The government has also ordered the officials to keep a check on the availability of medicines used in the treatment of novel coronavirus infection and make it available in sufficient quantity," the spokesman said.
"In the Level-2 and Level-3 Covid hospitals of the state, the ICUs have around 4,333 beds, which will now be increased to 4,611. Along with this, the number of isolation beds will be increased from 11,811 beds to approximately 16,422 beds in the government and private Covid hospitals," the official said.
As infection cases have been increasing in Uttar Pradesh for about a week, the chief minister has also given instructions to senior officials to ensure that there is no shortage of medicines.
Drug Controller AK Jain said medicines were available in sufficient quantities in the state, including sanitiser, PPE kits, ivermectin and azithromycin.
He said that during the pandemic times, the UP government had also increased the resources of testing, number of beds and ventilators in the hospitals and other such resources.
"As of February 2020, there were only 86 units for making hand sanitiser in the state, which has now increased to 151. Since February, 65 new sanitiser units have been established" Jain said.
