The Akhilesh Yadav government is contemplating to summon a short monsoon session next month to seek a supplementary grant of over Rs 4000 crores. This was stated by a government official in lucknow on Tuesday.
A highly placed source told ‘The Pioneer’ that the monsoon session would be of short duration, possibly of three days, and is likely to be summoned in the mid of August.
This would be the last legislative session of the Akhilesh Yadav government before the state goes to polls at the end of this year or beginning of next year.
With political parties not keen on legislative business with the elections around the corner, the government too will complete the formality by holding a small session.
“As the budget session ended in March, it is mandatory for the government to hold the next Assembly session within next six months. Moreover, the government needs money to complete unfinished work so it wants a supplementary grant. In short, by holding the monsoon session, the government wants to complete the formality,” the official said.
The state government needs funds for irrigation, health, agriculture, power and PWD sectors. It is expected that the government will seek supplementary funds of over Rs 4000 crores. This will also include financial allocation for Samajwadi Purvanchal Expressway connecting Ballia to lucknow via Azamgarh.
“The DPR of this project hasbeen finalized. land acquisition would be done and for this government needs money and for this the supplementary grants become so important,” the official said.
“The proposal to summon a legislative session is likely to be put up in the next cabinet meeting, slated sometimes this week,” the source said.
