UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav called on the state Governor Ram Naik on Saturday. Raj Bhawan sources said it was a courtesy call by the chief minister to greet the Governor on new years.
Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav raised the issue of pending issue of nomination of the five members to the UIP legislative council, the upper house of the state legislature and also about the bills passed by the state assembly and pending in Raj Bhawan for the approval by the Governor.
Akhilesh Yadav also informed the governor that the state government has increased the monthly subsistence allowance of the leprosy patients from Rs 250 per month to Rs 2,500 per month. The same would be distributed in a function at Raj Bhawan on January 30, the martyr’s day to commemorate the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The Governor, it may be recalled has an old association with the leprosy patients. Ram Naik headed the Indian leprosy Union when he was member of lok Sabha from Maharashtra and Union minister in previous NDA government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Ram Naik soon after taking over as Governor of the state had raised the issue of paltry amount of Rs 250 per month paid to the leprosy patients. The chief minister on the suggestion of the Governor raised the allowance from Rs 250 to Rs 2,500 per month. The allowance to the leprosy patients will be distributed by the social welfare department.
