Amid the demand for imposition of President’s rule in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav called on Governor Bl Joshi on Monday and is believed to have apprised him of the action taken by the Government in the Budaun gang-rape and murder case.
The meeting lasted for about half-an-hour.
Sources in the Raj Bhawan described it as a courtesy call but as the meeting took place when there is widespread outrage over the Budaun incident, it is believed that both discussed law and order situation in the state.
This was the first meeting between the Chief Minister and the Governor after the Budaun incident, sources said. The chief minister is believed to have apprised the Governor of the action taken by his Government to book the culprits and recommend a CBI probe into the case, as per the demand of the victims’ family. Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has urged Governor to recommend President’s rule in the state because the Government has failed to control law and order. The Bharatiya Janata Party also staged protest against rise in crime against women.
