CM assures strict action for killer of Jewelers

Assurance by Chief Mminister Yogi Adityanath on taking stern action and directing DGP Sulkhan Singh to visit Mathura to review and ensure early arrest of assailants who killed two jewellers there on Monday night, failed to cool the agitated traders.

In Mathura, thousands of businessmen shut shops, placed the body of the victims on the street to protest the sensational killing of their colleagues on Monday night and staged a huge demonstration on Tuesday afternoon. They accused law enforcing agencies for failing to initiate any action and demanded that the accused soon be arrested.

Meanwhile, DGP Sulkhan Singh closeted himself with top cops over the issue on Tuesday and asked sleuths of Special Task Force to camp in Mathura and work out the case.

Fortunately for the police, pictures of some assailants involved in the rob and kill incident was captured in nearby CCTV helping in identifying the gang involved.

On Monday night, half a dozen armed miscreants raided `Mayank Chain’ jewellery store at Koylewali Gali in Gate Bazar area of Mathura. At that time, ownwer Mayank Agarwal and his brother Vikas Agarwal were discussing business with a Delhi- based jeweller Megh Agarwal and his staff Ashok.

The raiders suddenly opened fire critically injuring all four persons present there and took the other staff at gun point. They later stashed ornaments and cash worth several crore rupees and escaped.

Hearing the staccato of gunshots, fellow traders rushed to Agarwal’s shop only to find Vikas Agarwal and Delhi-based trader Megh Agarwal dead while they rushed Mayank Agarwal and Ashok to a nearby hospital where their condition was stated to be critical.

Upon learning about the incident, top police officers and local police rushed to the scene and started probe.  They suspected the hand of some insiders and detained some staff to quiz them. The cops also seized video cameras of the market along with that installed at Agarwal’s shop and managed to retrieve footage of the entire incident.

Reacting to the incident, state government spokesman Shreekant Sharma said that besides instructing the police to work out the case and arrest the assailants soon, Mathura Police chief has been directed to beef up patrolling in markets and crowded places and launch a drive against criminals with a history of heinous offence.

Sharma said that DGP Sulkhan Singh will visit Mathura on Wednesday and review the situation and ensure the proper cracking of the case and arrest of criminals.
